Club Overview
Just a few metres upstream from the Thames River Lighthouse, you’ll find one of the most welcoming yacht clubs on the Great Lakes.
The Thames River Yacht Club is located in the village of Lighthouse Cove, Ontario, at the mouth of the Thames River near the southeast corner of Lake St. Clair.
As a Members-Helping-Members Club, our mission is to encourage and promote safe, enjoyable sailing while fostering a club culture that is supportive and fun. If you’re looking for a place to share your love of sailing with other friendly, helpful folks, join TRYC – we have it all!
Formed in the mid 1970s, TRYC was incorporated in the Province of Ontario as a not-for-profit corporation in 1981. Because we are a DIY club, we take on many tasks that other clubs contract out:
Masts are stepped and removed at the beginning and end of each season by small groups of members using our own gin pole;
Each April and October we hire a crane and operator to launch and haul out the fleet (25 000 pound maximum). A crew of our own volunteers manages the lines during these operations;
Volunteer crews move cradles in and out of storage each season. With plenty of property for winter storage of member boats, TRYC keeps the cost of ownership low;
Our Long Term Planning Committee prioritizes new projects on an ongoing basis, and members pitch in to complete nearly all aspects of these upgrades as volunteers. Recent examples include our Center Dock renovation, and our brand new Washroom facility, which boasts four beautiful bathrooms with showers, and a utility room;
Self-serve pump-out equipment is available to members at the gin pole dock at the mouth of the basin;
Members maintain and have full access to our beautiful park-like grounds and other features, including clubhouse, screened pavilion, barbecues, gazebo, and fire pit.
