Lake St. Clair
Sailor’s Delight.
Lake St. Clair is an ideal body of water for sailors of all skill levels. At roughly 450 square miles, Lake St. Clair provides challenging and variable wind conditions, while its shallow nature limits the bigger sea conditions experienced on deeper lakes. The proximity to major cities like Detroit and Windsor ensures that there are frequent and accurate weather forecasts, with plenty of notice when nasty weather pops up. The international border also means that both the Canadian and US Coast Guards monitor the lake, and are available to help in an emergency.
Well known for its sport fishing, Lake St. Clair warms up early in the Spring, and is popular for swimming, kiteboarding, and all kinds of other aquatic activities. With marinas and beaches dotting its perimeter, Lake St. Clair connects the Great Lakes of Huron and Erie, and provides an important commercial shipping channel for the United States and Canada. It also serves as a gateway to the famous North Channel of Georgian Bay, one of the most renowned freshwater cruising destinations in the world.
As for the sunsets, well, they speak for themselves.
